NTU is pleased to announce the winners of our 7thAnnual Research Day! Placing first was a tie between Energy Systems major Rashaundal Combs and Biology major Robinson Tom. Rashaundal’s project involved harnessing naturally occurring winds to generate mechanical power into electricity in an effort to explore pathways to replace the coal burning plants in the Four Corners area, while Robinson’s project involved fabrication and electrochemical studies of electrodes and aqueous gel electrolytes for light weight, non-flammable lithium ion batteries for U.S. Army soldiers in the battlefield.

Placing second was Environmental Science and Natural Resources major Elbasheena Allen, whose Traditional Ecological Knowledge project analyzed the correlation of Diné Traditional Names for Months with Current Climate Realities. Electrical Engineering major Darrick Lee placed third for his research on providing a resilient and reliant grid to power remote Navajo communities in Tolani Lake, Grand Falls, Sanders, AZ and Sanostee, NM.

A big thank you to all the participants in this year’s Research Day. We also had visitors from St. Bonaventure, who used the event as practice for the regional Science Fair. It was a good turnout!
